Wanganui Collegiate School
is the venue chosen to host the NZ Opera School from 3-15 January
each year. The School offers young singers the opportunity to
develop their vocal techniques, their language and performance
abilities during twelve days of intensive tuition.
Wanganui Collegiate School offers excellent
facilities with accommodation, dining room, The Prince Edward
Auditorium, Chapel and music rooms.
The facilities are excellent for fostering and nurturing the
training of New Zealands emerging Opera Stars.
The tutors who are selected to teach
at the NZOS are of the very highest standard and come to Wanganui
from around the world
as well as New Zealand .
The NZ Opera School
If you have never been to a Masterclass before,
we urge you to experience a training session in progress. The
masterclasses give a greater insight into the development of the
human voice, and are great fun!
Bring a friend and you will be invited to enjoy a glass of wine
or juice after the masterclass.
The singers have been selected as Dame Malvina Major
Emerging Artists of the NBR New Zealand Opera.
The lunchtime recital at
our Sarjeant Gallery has proven to be a very popular event
and we will be repeating it again this
year. The venue and food add to the special ambience as we listen
to the recital given by the students of the school.
Each year, another of the
highlights is the non-denominational service held in the beautiful
Wanganui Collegiate School Chapel. The emphasis
throughout is on music and you can be assured that with between
twenty and thirty professional singing voices, along with the
congregation and the stunning sounds of the beautiful organ,
you will be moved. This is an experience not to be missed, so
please join us.
And finally, the concert
in our Royal Wanganui Opera House is a special experience for
the audience as well as for the singers who, over
the years keep telling us
how they love singing there. Many of the students are already
singing professionally but they don’t always get to enjoy
as fine a building as this. The concert is a culmination of all
they have learned over the last twelve days and they truly deserve
our support. WOW is proud to say that we now have visitors from
all over NZ who come to Wanganui for this event.
